12L14 Low Carbon Material Information

12L14 material represents the latest development in the field of free machining carbon steel products and are the fastest machining steels available. 12L14 is essentially re-sulphurized and re-phosphorized screw machine stock to which lead has been added.

Applications to which 12L14 are used to take maximum advantage for parts where considerable machining is required, are brushing, inserts, couplings, and hydraulic hose fittings. With good ductility, these grades are suitable for parts involving bending, crimping, or riveting.

Hardening for 12L14 will respond better to conventional treatments, although they are not considered case-hardening steels.
