D-5 Tool Steel Material Information |
|||||||||||||
|
D-5 is an air hardening high carbon-high chromium die. The addition of
approximately 3% cobalt to D-5 gives this grade extra resistance to galling and
pickup in additional to superior hot hardness which is useful for semi-hot work
applications. The cobalt addition also is effective in retaining high hardness
levels when it is desirable to nitride specialized tools.
Hardening happens between 1800°F - 1850°F. D-5 is an oversized material, |
